Ground movements to the historic retaining wall supporting a road section north of Ironbridge led to its partial closure for many years. Investigations revealed a complex history to wall construction and challenging landslip ground conditions. Cost pressures excluded the rebuilding of the wall. Stabilisation design by Red Rock and subsequent construction works included the application of a geopolymer to infill voids in unstable arches hidden at the base of the wall and the requirements for a staged constructed methodology to minimise temporary works. The wall is being stabilised with 8-10m soil nails with a new facing of shotcrete and mesh reinforcement.
